This interactive workshop includes:


Introduction to applicable theory and “best practices” derived from current pedagogical research

Practical “takeaway” activities for immediate use in kids classes

  1. A question/answer troubleshooting-session, during which participants come with specific questions and topics of concern that are most relevant to their teaching practice and dojo communities

Course Instructor:


Charles Colten is the Director and Chief Instructor of Aikido in the Schools, which is based in New York City. He holds a Masters degree in Educational/Organizational Leadership from Columbia University, teaches Aikido and Tai chi to children in public and private schools, and gives Children’s Instructor Seminars and Workshops in Europe and the United States. Charles worked as a teacher in schools for more than 20 years and currently holds the rank of 4th degree black belt in Aikido, granted by Aikido World Headquarters, Hombu dojo, in Tokyo, Japan. He hopes that the cross-pollination between the Aikido and Education communities will enrich the experience for teachers and students in both.
